YOUTUBE KILLA

Gabby hit me up and sent me this new track titled BigBizi, apparently he’s been busy uploading his tracks to his new Youtube account. Gabby is Rene Netherlands, the sampler psych pop king from Massachusetts with ten digital albums under his belt. BigBizi is a teaser from his upcoming digital download, it’s a nearly ten-minute long tranced out banger skating around ambient sounds.

BigBizi:

Also included are a couple of my favorite Renedawg tracks, KimChee Soup, which is off of his digital album Yolanda, and Buffalo Pizza which is off of Ivy League.

THE WOLFMAN IS EVERYWHERE

Somewhere lost in time are Wolfman Jacks’ radio recordings from the early 1960s, and riding the same wavelengths are Outer Limits Recordings, creating retro ballads surrounded by in-between radio station static.

Sugar Pie is a track that dances around drive-in fast food and diners, it defines the rich colors and diner food that mineswhile be candy.

You can stream their upcoming singles on a Soundcloud set here, and pick them up phsyically in the form of two different 7”s from Old English Spelling Bee. If you really dig this be sure to pick up the package containing a super-limited Outer Limits CD-R limited to 40 copies. It comes with the “Foxy Baby” LP released on No Not Fun, too.

DREAMSCAPES

Marissa Nadler is a musical architect, her heavenly voice lies down the foundation of a dreamscape, and her beautifully written instrumentals create buildings upon this dreamscape, which span across an infinite realm.

Marissa is attempting to record a new album without the help of a label, and is raising money through Kickstarter. You can help her out by simply pledging ten dollars or more.

Daisy, Where Did You Go is a track off of this upcoming record, a heart-wrenching venture into the vivid emotions Marissa creates visually with her music.

If you haven’t purchased her limited handmade 17-track covers CD yet, do so here, they might not last for much longer.

WALLS OF WATER THAT RISE TO THE HEAVENS

It’s a known fact among sailors and mariners that when traveling the North Atlantic, the Labrador Current is a smart current to pass through when the seas are rough. The Labrador Current is composed of very cold water, it is ‘heavier’ than warm water resulting in more forgiving seas. It has even been known to carry icebergs with it, sometimes farther south into the Atlantic where icebergs would not normally be found. Theoretically, oceanographers have calculated the maximum wind-driven wave height to reach 198 feet. A wave of this size could easily crush the largest tanker, making it important to take every precautaion possible when a storm is approaching and land is out of of reach.

Couscous no Cavalo Branco is a new track by Branches, which symbolizes the ocean during the autumn, and the tumultuous seas that it can bring. Pedros’ tremolo guitar grants images of the immense fog created when this current meets the warm Gulf Stream off the coast of Newfoundland, and with each pluck of a string, the journey.

ROTARY CURRENTS

Tidal currents are the horizontal movement of water, of which can either be categorized as bidirectional or rotary. Bidirectional currents flow in alternate directions, where rotary currents flow continuously and slowly change direction.

Plastic Flowers is a one man indie pop project by Sean Beard from Thallassee, Florida. Sean uses 80’s inspired home recorded songs to model the sunny aesthetic of his Floridian hometown. Plastic Flowers creates an atmosphere that models a rotary current, his base loops flowing continuously throughout while gradually bringing different harmonic melodies to the song at the same time. Ultimately Sean creates a feeling of immersion into his music, as if you were to step into the ocean and be swept away by a strong current.

THE VAMPIRE SQUID

Vampyroteuthis infernalis-also known as the vampire squid-is gelatinous in form, the only squid known to have tooth-like spikes on its’ arms to capture its’ prey, and covered in photophores. Photophores are light-producing organs, giving the squid the ability to become completely invisible in the dark abyss in which it lives, at depths up to about 900 meters. Any SCUBA diver will tell you visible white light is non-existent at around 100 meters, the recreational depth limit for a human diver is about 40 meters, it is safe to assume that the vampire squid has lived without interaction from humans since the beginning of time.

Tous Les Garçons et les Fille is a cover of the famous Françoise Hardy track from the 1960s by avant experimental artist Arc. The prominent bass resemble the intense pressure of the deep, and the muffled vocals represent the disorientation with how a diver might feel from diving too deep.

Be sure to check out his Amdiscs release, Athlete, here. He’s also got a show in Boston coming up at O’Briens in Allston, MA with my dear friends PPALMM and Birthdays along with Teenage Reverb.

11 DIMENSIONS

Theoretical physicists use the M-theory, which is an extension of string theory in which 11 dimensions are identified. The idea behind M-theory is to explain the origins of our universe as it relates to physics and mathematics. After a saturated amount of attempts to make this theory work, scientists were left with five versions of the same formula. The eleventh dimension was added in attempt to explain the unexplained- the parallel universe, bringing us one step closer to understanding the truth behind The Big Bang.

Port City creates lo-fi soul pop like no other, the duo marry melodies and percussion together as if you were to glue them. Much like the M-theorys’ eleventh dimension, Jorge and Thom create music that explores a whole new unknown of soulful pop, creating The Big Bang over and over again with each song.

Thom and Jorge have recently uploaded a few jams recorded live back in 2009. Port City is on a short hiatus currently, but I’ve been assured that some new recordings will be available in the coming months.

SLAY THE MONSTER; SAVE THE GODDESS

Chains is the opener to Gatekeepers’ 6-track EP titled Giza, a venture into industrial skull disco. Gatekeeper is two Chicago art students, Aaron David Ross and Matthew Arkell-who use threir musical project to illustrate through sound sci-fi film scores lost in the past. Chains is the perfect opener for this EP as it is composed mostly of a loose gathering of horrific sounds. The result is an immediate descent into the record, grasping you like a giant hand from an unkown world-and not letting go until your task of a full listen has been completed. The video below is the first in a series of six videos being put out by Hippos In Tanks, and be sure to preorder Giza here.

THE TEMPEST

Greek sailors believed that an unruly passage across the ocean were a result of offending the greek god, Poseidon. They truly believed ignoring Poseidon would result in danger it sea-he would be responsible for earthquakes, drownings and shipwrecks. Greek sailors had feared him so that they would resort to drowning horses as a sacrifice for a safe voyage.

I first heard of Elite Athlete when he came around on SBBD’s guest mix a while back. I was also fortunate enough to get an epic synth banger from him for my World Hunger Compilation. His EP has been out on Portugals’ MPD for a while and I cannot stress enough how good it is. His music explores a large realm of electronica, pulling from many of its’ sub-genres to create dark, moody electronic sounds. The sounds Elite Athlete creates are the same sounds I imagine were emitted from Poseidons’ trident, as he reeked havoc on the seas.

FEATURE: GAS 0095

It isn’t unheard of to believe that there is at least one more galaxy that exists in spaces’ infinite realm. Space, in itself, is the ultimate model to demonstrate infinity. In space, nebulae form, stars explode, and it is composed of planets. Some of these planets may contain life, as we have here on earth, in the Milky Way Galaxy.

When life ceases to exist on this planet, in another time; another place, life may exist on another. I have stated before that measurable time does not really exist, and it is only used as a way to organize our lives. Life never really ends, although yours will, life lives on in the earth and carbon life forms that make up the rest of it.

Gas 0095 was the debut record by electronic musician Mat Jarvis, released by Em:t Records in 1995. The entire album is composed of ambient spacial sounds, and was encoded in three dimensions by the Roland Sound Space RSS 3D sound imaging system.

The below video explores the powers of 10, and illustrates what its’ like to add another zero. This video, created for IBM, is a demonstration of what I am attempting to illustrate-that even when this video travels all the way out to 1E24 meters, there is still more space that it hasn’t included. Perhaps, this could be where the word was derived from?

WILLIAM WALKER

The Winchester Cathedral is the oldest medieval cathedral in northern Europe. Throughout the 1800s and early 1900s, it began to sink into the ground due to the peat soil it had been built upon. William Walker was the most experinced diver working for Siebe Gorman Ltd., and responsible for reinforcing the Winchester Cathedral. He used about 25,000 bags of concrete, 115,000 concrete blocks, and 900,000 bricks when all was said and done. At the end of this project William had dove into some 235 six meter pits dug around the cathedral, working in complete darkness six hours a day. Every weekend, he would cycle 150 miles to see his family.

I don’t know much about the artist behind the track titled Silt, only that this was dedicated to William Walker, and perhaps was made to soundtrack with embodying electronic synth the six hours he spent in the darkness each day, shoring up the Winchester Cathedral with heavy concrete.

Here’s to you, William.
